Bring History To Life

My Local History helps communities and museums turn names, buildings, exhibits, and landmarks into stories people can see and hear. We bring your history to life by writing and producing short narrated videos or audio tours accessible through QR enabled signs. Our productions can also be used for virtual walking tours, websites, social media, and more.

Frequently Asked Questions

My Local History helps communities share the stories behind the places people pass every day and bring museums exhibits to life without special equipment. Because every project is a little different, questions often come up about how our videos work, how QR codes are used, who owns the content, and what is required to get started.

The answers below are designed to give you a clear understanding of our process, what to expect, and how My Local History fits alongside existing signage, exhibits, and preservation efforts. If you do not see your question answered here, we are always happy to talk through your specific goals and constraints.

General Information

Municipal / City
My Local History gives municipalities a simple way to preserve and share local stories in public spaces, helping strengthen placemaking, civic pride, and community identity without adding staff, infrastructure, or ongoing operational burden.

Museum
Museums use My Local History to extend interpretation beyond their walls through self-guided storytelling that complements existing exhibits. QR-based access allows museums to share more context without overwhelming physical signage, encourages deeper engagement, and gives visitors the opportunity to explore stories at their own pace.

Historic Society
Historic societies can document and share local history in a durable, modern format that reaches residents and visitors where the history actually happened. This approach helps bring years of research and archival knowledge into the community in a way that is accessible, engaging, and meaningful.

Tourism
Tourism organizations use My Local History to create engaging, place-based experiences that encourage exploration and support heritage tourism. Projects can incorporate digital maps, and QR codes can be included on signage, brochures, or visitor materials to create self-guided walking tours that connect people more deeply with a destination.

Video Production Information

Each project follows a straightforward, collaborative process designed to minimize the time required from your team while ensuring accuracy and quality.

First, the organization provides the historical information, background materials, and any existing references related to the story through a simple online form. This information serves as the foundation for the production.

My Local History then creates a complete proof video or audio story, including narration and visuals where applicable. Rather than reviewing a script in isolation, you review the full production as it will be experienced by the public.

After review, any factual corrections or adjustments are incorporated, and the final version is delivered for public use. QR codes and optional distribution materials are provided as part of the completed production.

Signage & Delivery

No. Signage is completely optional.

While QR-enabled signs are a popular way to connect stories to physical locations, videos and audio productions can be shared in many other ways. Organizations often use kiosks, tablets, museum displays, websites, social media, digital maps, brochures, or visitor center screens to share their stories.

Signage is simply one delivery method. The storytelling itself can live anywhere you choose to share it.

Video & Audio Hosting Information

We include shortened URLs, video hosting management, and QR code redirects at no cost for the first year for all new clients.

After the first year, hosting is a flat $149 per year. This covers all of your productions, QR codes, and shortened URLs under one account. It is not a per-video fee.

If you prefer not to use our hosting, you are welcome to upload your videos to any platform you choose and create your own QR codes and links. Your productions are yours to keep, use, and share without any obligation to continue our hosting or redirect services.
